How to Make a Delicious Vanilla Matcha

Matcha lovers, rejoice! If you're looking for a smooth, creamy, and slightly sweet twist on your traditional matcha, vanilla matcha is the perfect drink for you. This delightful combination of earthy matcha and sweet vanilla creates a comforting and energizing beverage that you can enjoy hot or iced. In this blog post, we’ll go over a simple recipe to make your own vanilla matcha at home.

Ingredients:

  • 1 teaspoon high-quality matcha powder

  • 1/2 teaspoon pure vanilla extract or vanilla bean paste

  • 1 cup milk of choice (dairy, almond, oat, coconut, etc.)

  • 1 tablespoon honey, maple syrup, or sweetener of choice (optional)

  • 1/4 cup hot water (about 175°F or 80°C)

  • Ice cubes (if making iced vanilla matcha)

I recommend for Matcha using the Jade Leaf Matcha Organic Ceremonial Green Tea Powder and for Vanilla extract using Native Vanilla extract

Instructions:

Step 1: Sift the Matcha Powder

For a smooth, clump-free matcha, sift 1 teaspoon of matcha powder into a bowl or cup using a fine-mesh sieve. This helps to aerate the matcha and ensures an even consistency when whisking.

Step 2: Mix the Matcha with Hot Water

Add 1/4 cup of hot water (not boiling) to the sifted matcha. Using a bamboo whisk (chasen) or a handheld frother, whisk the matcha in a “W” or “M” motion until it becomes frothy and well blended.

Step 3: Heat the Milk

If making a hot vanilla matcha, warm your milk of choice in a small saucepan over medium heat until hot but not boiling. If making an iced version, keep the milk cold.

Step 4: Add Vanilla and Sweetener

Stir in the vanilla extract or vanilla bean paste and your sweetener of choice into the milk. Mix well to evenly distribute the flavors.

Step 5: Combine the Ingredients

For a hot vanilla matcha, pour the warm milk into the matcha mixture and stir well. For an iced vanilla matcha, fill a glass with ice cubes, pour in the matcha mixture, and then add the cold milk on top.

Step 6: Enjoy!

Give your vanilla matcha a gentle stir, sip, and enjoy your homemade, cafe-quality drink!

Tips for the Best Vanilla Matcha:

  • Adjust the vanilla extract to taste; start with 1/2 teaspoon and add more if desired.

  • If you love extra frothy matcha, use a milk frother to blend the milk before adding it to the matcha.

  • Try adding a sprinkle of cinnamon or nutmeg for a cozy twist!

Whether you’re starting your morning with a boost of energy or treating yourself to a mid-day pick-me-up, this vanilla matcha recipe is sure to become a favorite. Give it a try and let us know how you like it!
